This historic cottage is located in a private spot within the spacious grounds of Orongo Bay Holiday Park. We are on the outskirts of Russell and ideally located to explore the Bay of Islands offering a traditional style Kiwi holiday park, with spacious sites, BBQ and leisure areas and lots of room for kids to run around in, together with a playground and pool. The Bay of Islands offers year round sea and land based fishing and the Orongo Bay Holiday Park has room to park boats and trailers together with a fish cleaning area and smokehouse. The cottage is free standing, fully self contained and sleeps up to 6. Perfect for some R&R with the family! Enjoy some quiet reading on the deck or in the private courtyard. Native birds including Tui, Kingfishers, Herons and the endangered Weka live in the Park and the calls of the Kiwi can be heard at night. Also enjoy facilities in the holiday park Orongo Bay Holiday Park is 1.5 km from the Russell village and around 4 km from the Russell wharf. |

The Cottage
North facing small house/bach self catering queen sized bed, bunks off lounge, sofa bed in lounge, all bed linen and towels provided, full kitchen, bathroom with shower, deck, private courtyard with BBQ, TV, car park, adjacent campsite. Rates are for 2 people. Extra adults $20.00. Extra children $12.00. The room caters for a maximum of 6 adults, and a maximum of 4 children but cannot exceed 6 guests in total. | Getting There |
The two major northbound routes are: 1. Via the Old Russell Road. Follow State Highway 1 out of Whangarei heading north. 15 minutes north of Whangarei turn right after the Whakapara BP service station into the Old Russell Road. This stunning coastal road offers spectacular views of unspoiled beaches and native forests. After approximately an hour you arrive at Orongo Bay. Turn right at the T intersection and we are situated on the first bend, on the right. 2. Follow State Highway out of Whangarei heading north. 10 to 15 minutes after Kawa Kawa is the turnoff to the right to Opua. At the bottom of the hill turn left for the vehicle ferry. There are two ferries operating continually, usually between 7am and 10 pm and bookings are not required. Exit ferry and continue on road to Russell. The Orongo Bay Holiday Park is approximately 6 minutes from the ferry, on the right. |
