| Getting There |
Hire a car and drive south of Cairns to Gordonvale, then travel up the Gillies Highway onto the Atherton Tablelands. Follow the road signs to Lake Eacham. When you are looking at the waterfront at Lake Eacham, drive to the left and Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges on Eacham Close is the first possible turn on the left hand side. The Lodges are a 700 metre scenic drive through the rainforest from the front gate. Approx. 69km and 1.25 hours drive from Cairns. |

WILDLIFE VIEWING: Every night, for guests at Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges, there is a complimentary Rainforest Kangaroo Viewing and Wildlife Commentary. A Wildlife Viewing Platform is illuminated until 11pm for guests to view Sugar Gliders, Uromys, Bandicoots, Melomys, Antechinus and some times Striped Possums. Chanel 9 on your lodge TV shows a live broadcast of wildlife activity at the viewing platform. Spotlighting gear, binoculars, information sheets and detailed directions to the best wildlife spotlighting areas on The Atherton Tablelands are available for guests. Professional wildlife guides can be hired by pre arrangement. BIRDWATCHING: Experience excellent bird watching from the verandah of your rainforest lodge. Common sightings include: Victoria Rifle Birds, Spotted Cat Birds, Tooth-billed Bower Birds, Grey-headed Robins, Orange-footed Jungle Fowls, parrots, fruit pigeons, whipbirds, and great many other bird species, while Red Boobooks and Lesser Sooty Owls can be heard at night. Binoculars, bird identification books, current bird lists, maps, and detailed directions to the best birding sights are available for guests. Professional birding guides can be hired by pre arrangement. BUSHWALKING: The resort includes a 1.3km rainforest walking path to Platypus ponds, Brush Turkey mounds, and Tooth billed Bowerbird stages. There are also a 1km waterfall walk and 4km rainforest walk around Lake Eacham. Your accommodation includes detailed maps and directions to many Highland Rainforest walking paths such as the 6km walk around Lake Barrine, Malanda Falls Environmental Park Arbour Walk, Danbulla State Forest Walks, Palmerston Highway Walks and Mt Bartle Frere Summit Walk. ABORIGINAL RAINFOREST GUIDED WALK: Take a one hour rainforest Dreaming Guided walk with local Ngadjon elder, Ernie Raymont and see the rainforest through the eyes of the aboriginal rainforest people. Walks are only on Saturdays and Sundays at 9.30am and 11am. PLATYPUS SIGHTING: Guests receive detailed directions to where ever is the most successful platypus sighting areas, on The Atherton Tablelands, at the time of their stay. ALAN’S NOCTURNAL WILDLIFE TOURS: Alan Gillanders conducts a two hr nocturnal animal spotlighting tour to see Tree Kangaroos, Possums and many other nocturnal species. Alan’s tour costs AU$60 per couple, AU$80 per family (2 a & 2 c). LAKE BARRINE RAINFOREST WILDLIFE CRUISE: An excellent 45 minute lake cruise and commentary. View Amethyst Pythons, Eels, Turtles, whistling Kites etc. SCENIC TOURS: Enjoy rainforest waterfalls, ancient crater lakes, giant trees and world heritage national parks. Guests are supplied with maps and directions to the natural attractions of the Waterfalls & Crater Lakes District of the Atherton Tablelands. SWIMMING AND PICNIC BBQ AT LAKE EACHAM: Swim in a crystal clear 60m deep ancient volcanic crater lake surrounded by 500 hectares of tropical highland rainforest. |
