Garden View Bed and Breakfast is a delightful, architecturally-designed bed and breakfast situated on one and a half acres of spacious grounds uniquely landscaped in a wide selection of New Zealand native trees and shrubs and rose gardens. We have 4 double rooms available, including one with ensuite facilities. Relax in the music room or enjoy great indoor/ outdoor dining. Meals can be arranged at additional cost - just let us know. Complimentary transfers to and from the airport available any time. | Getting There |
We are located in Rolleston just 12 kms (10 minutes) from Hornby, Christchurch and 1.5 kms from State Highway No 1. As you drive from the airport, turn right on to Russley Road (cross over Yaldhurst Road) and head for Hornby, then turn right on to State Highway 1 (south to Timaru and Dunedin). We are 12 kms (10 minutes) from the Hornby shopping centre. Pass through the new traffic lights at Rolleston (opposite the railway station) to the BP Station. Turn left into Tennyson Street. Proceed 1 km to the roundabout. Turn sharp right onto Lowes Road (not Goulds Road), continue for 500 yards; we are just past some very tall gum trees on the left – through a pine hedge. Our sign is right there at 133 Lowes Road. |

Enjoy a special afternoon tea inside the gazebo as you listen to the birds and watch their movements through the native foliage. Stroll around the grounds. Observe the wide range of native species and hear of their place in New Zealand's natural forest, scrub and grassland associations. Pétanque, croquet, two pianos, guitar, music library and mountain bikes are all available for your enjoyment. Lincoln University (10 minutes away), Burnham Military Camp, Research Institutes, local golf courses and ranges, restaurants and wineries, garden tours and fishing for trout or salmon. Visit the Antarctic Centre or the Air Force World. Travel to the Christchurch City Centre where you will find the Town Hall, Arts Centre, Museum, Art Gallery, City Tours, Christchurch Cathedral, Botanical Gardens (one of the finest in the Southern Hemisphere), punting on the Avon River and travel on the Worcester Boulevard Tram. Go up, up, up in the Gondola and dine at the top (as you look down on Christchurch and across the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps). Hagley Park and the Court Theatre also await you. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, Ferrymead Historic Park, Balloon Adventures Up, Up & Away, Tamaki Heritage Village, Riccarton Sunday Market, Sumner and Brighton beaches, Yaldhurst Transport Museum, Diamond Harbour Ferry, arts and crafts shops, cafés and the French History Museum in the historic township of Akaroa are all within easy reach. Visit the Barrys Bay Cheese Factory on the way to Akaroa - Barrys Bay, where cheese is created - not just made. Walk along the pier in Akaroa and see the blue pearls at Akaroa Blue Pearls Ltd. Visiting during the winter months? We are only one to two hour's drive to four ski fields in Canterbury, including Mt Hutt. The Tranz Alpine Scenic Train day trip from Christchurch to Greymouth return (in winter or summer) is a wonderful experience. It will pick you up here in Rolleston at 8.35 am and drop you back the same day at 5.45 pm. |
