The Kalamunda Hills have an abundance of attractions to cater for the needs of the most discerning of tourists especially those seeking nature based activities combined with unique dining and leisure experiences. Maps of the local area are available at reception and are free of charge. Here are some details of some of the more popular destinations: Kalamunda Village The village of Kalamunda provides for all your local shopping needs. It has all the standard amenities as well as many unique and interesting specialty shops. History Village The largest folk museum in WA depicts the unique early Hills settler life and industries. Centred around the original Darling Range Railway. Zig Zag Tourist Drive Once the railway line from the timber mills in the Hills to Midland, this scenic drive provides spectacular views. Walking Trails including the world famous Bibbulmun Track There are many well marked walking trails in the surrounding bush which cater for the casual or serious hiker. National Parks forests and bush land There are several National Parks in the region such as John Forrest, Pickering Brook and Mundaring. All Parks have excellent picnic facilities and are all identified on the Tourist maps. Galleries, craft and curio shops A vast array of quaint and unique shops are scattered around the Hills and most can be found in and around the Village. Perth Observatory Located on Walnut Road in the Bickley Valley, tours are conducted on Sundays at 2pm with night tours on 8 nights per month (excl June, July and August). Bookings essential for night Tours. Open Gardens, Nurseries and Garden Centres. Some of Perth’s finest specialist Nurseries including the award winning Zanthorrea Native Nursery and Melville Rose Farm are within easy driving distance. Lesmurdie Falls Picnic areas, a well defined walking trail and superb views over Perth are features of the falls which are at their best from spring to autumn. Mundaring Weir. A lovely scenic drive through State Forest from Kalamunda takes you to the Weir and the fascinating C. Y. O’Connor Museum. Wildflowers in season Western Australia has a word wide reputation for its spectacular wildflowers and the largest variety is on our doorstep in the Kalamunda Hills.
