We are glad to have you as our guest in the Palace of Cardinal Sisto Riario Sforza, the last Bishop of the Bourbon Kingdom of Naples, in the heart of the Decumans, just close to the majolica Cloister of Santa Chiara Church, the Veiled Christ and the Via Spaccanapoli. The Palace used to be the residence of the “God’s Servant” Sisto Riario Sforza for more than 30 years, from 1845 to his death in 1877. He was the last Bishop of “Two Sicilies Kingdom” and the first in Italy Kingdom. In historian scientists’ opinion, he seemed to be “a servant of God working for the salvation of souls”, too much “a priest” to be even “a politician”. Through his 33 years office, 3 Vesuvius eruptions and 4 pestilences happened: he took care himself of the victims to help directly his country’s people. He sold out all his riches and got indebted with the banker Rotschild for 12.000 (ducati) but the banker refused the repayment because of the deep admiration he fell for the Cardinal. In honour of this great personality we restaured his apartment, thinking about all the requirements of a charming and comfortable hotel. The common areas have a beautiful floor with old majolica pieces. The masterpiece of the structure is the wonderful XVIII century hall with ancient mirrors and golden stuccos, the best place to relax listening to classic music, having a tea or reading a book. The hall is suitable even for meetings and cultural national and international events. Follow the information for Mezzocannone street, straight on and turn on the third street on the left " De Marinis street " arriving in a little square of Orientale University, take a street on the right "Via San Giovanni Maggiore Pignatelli On n. 15…..Here we are. From the central Station >Taxi, the cost is approx 10 Euro.Run time 15 minutes >Alibus ( look as above ) >Bus R2 ( look as above ) By car - Take direction "Nuova Marina" street, highway exit "Napoli Centro/ Via Nuova Marina" , after about 2 km turn on the right to "Porta di Massa" Street then follow the signs to Via Mezzocannone. Ride through Via Mezzocannone turn on the third street on the left, Via De Marinis, then follow the signs to Santa Chiara Parking which is just 100 mt far from Decumani Hotel de Charme.Run Time: 50 minutes From Molo Beverello (hydrofoil boat) Taxi, charge is about 8,00 Euro. By walking, exit and turn to the right, go through " Nuova Marina street " for about 1 km, cross the road, go to " Porta di Massa street " and on to " Mezzocannone street " ( look as above ) From " Varco Porta di Massa " (ferry boat) Taxi, charge is about 6,00 Euro. The choice of Naples for your holyday reveals the desire to immerse yourself in culture, history, art, Neapolitan way of living food, castles, traditions and picturesque “vicoli” (typical narrow popular streets) of our town. Santa Chiara Cloister, Gesù Nuovo Square, the Duomo Church, S. Domenico Maggiore Church, Spaccanapoli, S. Severo Chapel (Veiled Christ sculpture),Art Museum MADRE, National Archeologic Museum, San Gregorio Armeno street and Underground Cavern of Naples are just some of the places you can easily reach by a short walk, in less than 10 minutes from our hotel. Capri, Ischia and Procida Islands are reachable from the harbour Molo Beverello, far from the hotel just 10 minutes by foot. In about 1 hour or less, you can even reach the most important cultural and tourist attraction around Naples, such as Pompei, Ercolano, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Caserta Royal Palace (the small “Versailles”) and Campi Flegrei, where you can find places famous for Greek and Latin mythology. |
