Red Mill House caters to those with an interest in the wildlife, ecology and conservation of the Daintree, and is well known as deluxe accommodation for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers visiting the Daintree. Red Mill House consists of an historic timber 'Queenslander' homestead and a purpose-built modern addition, nestled in 1½ acres of tropical rainforest gardens. Red Mill House offers just five rooms - four ensuite rooms with wide verandahs overlooking the garden and our two bedroom family unit downstairs in the original homestead. All rooms are tasefully decorated and are designed to suit the tropics. Red Mill House is owned and operated by Trish and Andrew Forsyth, who live on-site and are delighted to welcome guests into the home. Recent winners of Tourism Tropical North Queensland Tourism Award for Best Hosted Accommodation and finalists in Tourism Queensland awards.Famous for their full breakfasts, which include home-made yoghurt, breads and jams, local tropical fruits and a range of cooked options, and are included in the tariff. The friendly communal areas include a lounge room and nature library, breakfast area and decks, and extensive gardens and pool. Wildlife field guides and binoculars are available for guests' use. Located in the township of Daintree. Transport and a choice of restaurants are available just a short stroll away, as are walks, river cruises and other tours. |

| Getting There |
Red Mill House is in Daintree Village, 1½ hours drive north of Cairns. From Cairns, follow the Captain Cook Highway north - past the Port Douglas turn off, through the township of Mossman, past the Cape Tribulation Ferry turn off and into Daintree Village. You will see our sign on the left as you come into town. Do not take the Ferry turn off. Bus transport is available from Cairns and Port Douglas, but because of the locality, we advise guests to hire a car for greater flexibility during your stay. |

Daintree is an excellent base for exploring the region. The world heritage-listed Daintree National Park is easily accessible. The boardwalks through the rainforest and mangroves are highly recommended and along with the Daintree Discovery Centre, make an excellent day trip from Red Mill House. Daintree is one of Australia's premier birdwatching locations and the Daintree River is well known for birds and early morning birding cruises. A wide variety of habitats with rainforest, mangroves, woodland, wetlands, urban and farmland, can give birdwatchers 100 species during their stay. Local specials include Little Kingfisher, Great-billed Heron, Papuan Frogmouth, Black Bittern and Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher in season. Red Mill House provides bird lists, 'mud maps', binoculars and up-to date information on bird sightings.
