The Country Inn & Suites, New Orleans Hotel is Museums, the Mississippi River, IMAX Theater, Aquarium of the Americas, and Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Something old, something new! Why all the old wood beams and exposed brick walls? This is the first Country Inn & Suites in a downtown location as well as in the state of Louisiana. The 155 room hotel was developed in seven historic buildings dating back to the 1860s. The buildings are listed on the US Register of National Historic Places and have a colorful history, including the main building which housed the Clarion Herald, a publisher of Christian literature; a few other buildings used as warehouses for numerous products, including liquor, tobacco and dry goods; and the back buildings which were once fabric retail shops at the street level with town homes above. The hotel is a jewel in that it showcases the exquisite interior design and architecture in a historic building. The significant charm has been kept by preserving and restoring the exposed beam ceilings, slate floors and brick walls that were part of the original design. Almost every room has something a little different from the next! The property features 1,300 feet of meeting space, a lounge with atrium seating, outdoor pool and courtyard, exercise facility, complimentary breakfast and wireless high-speed internet access throughout the public areas. | Things To Do |
Mardi Gras Time-honored tradition that must be experienced to be understood. It's a combination of centuries - old traditions and high-tech innovations. From the untrained behavior of Bourbon Street to the French Quarter area, Mardi Gras in New Orleans truly defies description. Mardi Gras dates: 2008 - February 5 2009 - February 24 2010 - February 16 2011 - March 8 Come experience the magic of Mardi Gras! Whether you know it as "The City that Care Forgot" or "The Big Easy," New Orleans is a lot more than just a party town. Completely unique thanks to its French, Spanish and African-American cultural legacies and a history rich with heroes and scoundrels, New Orleans is also a city of profound resiliency. It's a city that refused to be swept away by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. And while scars remain in some neighborhoods, especially the Lower Ninth Ward, key destinations like the French Quarter, St. Charles Avenue, Magazine Street, and the Garden District are once again the vibrant, bustling centers of activity they always have been. Residents, too, have been energized by this renaissance, welcoming visitors with a characteristically warm embrace. New Orleans' signature charm is unmistakable, and one day among its live oaks and gracious architecture or one night spent on bawdy Bourbon Street will have you yearning for another visit before you've even completed the first. Voodoo and the bayou. The Superdome and Mardi Gras. Saints and sinners. Steamy jazz and muggy nights. Po'boys and beignets ... Laissez les bon temps rouler, indeed! Love Potion #9? If it exists, you can find it in New Orleans. Historically known for its voodoo practices, the city is still home to adherents of the religion. A good place to embark on a voodoo tour is at the Voodoo Spiritual Temple, where spiritual healing rituals, based on Afro-centric American voodoo, are practiced by a priestess.
