Walhalla's Star Hotel is located in the heart of Walhalla Historic Township, this 12 room boutique hotel combines stylish surrounding with a peaceful environment. Walhalla is hidden in a deep valley of the Victorian Alps and was one of Victoria's richest gold mining towns a century ago. Over 75 tons of gold was removed from the village, however in 1914 the gold ran out and Walhalla was virtually abandoned.

Today, Walhalla has less than 20 residents but it is a popular tourist destination with lots to see and do. Being just over 2 hours drive from central Melbourne; Walhalla is a magnet for people wishing to experience a bygone era. Many of the town's historic building remain and the steep sided valley provides a dramatic backdrop to the cute cottages, meandering stream and exotic trees.

The Star Hotel was built in 1999 as a replica of the original "gold-era" Star Hotel. On the outside it looks like that original, however on the inside it is a modern property and all bedrooms feature ensuites, king size beds, CD players and either veranda or garden access. Walhalla's Star hotel is a haven from television and mobile telephones...if you're craving either of these items, Walhalla is not the place for you. It's all about getting away from the "modern" world and having some time to yourself.

Walhalla's Star Hotel has a cozy guest lounge with book and CD library for your enjoyment as well as a stylish a la carte restaurant. NOTE: Pre-booking is required for the restaurant. Walhalla Historic Township has a range of activities to enjoy; ride the Walhalla Goldfields Railway; venture deep underground on a tour of the Long Tunnel Extended Goldmine; explore the town on a self-guided town walk; hike up to Walhalla's famous hill-yop cricket ground; see the forgotten suburbs of Walhalla on a 4WD tour; discover the hardships of the 19th century at Walhalla's bizarre mountain side cemetery. Nearby you can explore the Baw Baw National Park and in winter ski at either Mt St Gwinear or Mt Baw Baw.

Alternatively, your stay at Walhalla's Star Hotel can simply be about relaxing, unwinding and enjoying the unique atmosphere that is Walhalla and the Star Hotel.

Getting There	BY CAR FROM MELBOURNE; M1 > City Link, Monash Freeway, Princes Freeway (signs for Warragul). Exit M1 at Moe. Follows signs to Erica/Rawson/Walhalla (C103, C466, C461). Distance 180km. Travel time 2 hours, 10 minutes. Note that during peak-times journey time may increase by up to 1/2 an hour.
