| Getting There |
Coming from Auckland or Hamilton you will approach the city on the expressway that runs along the harbour estuary. Take the "City Centre" turn-off onto the roundabout. Drive straight up the hill and turn right at the traffic lights. The second turn on the left is Second Avenue. The Tauranga is at the eastern end of Second Avenue, right on the water. You will see the reception signage as you approach. From Rotorua you will approach the city by driving up the 15th Avenue hill. Turn right towards the city at the main road ~ Cameron Road, or the secondary road ~ Fraser St, (which then joins with Devonport Road). As you drive towards the city you will bypass the Avenues in descending order. Turn right into Second Avenue, The Tauranga can be seen from the intersection of Devonport Road and Second Avenue. If you are coming from Mount Maunganui via the harbour bridge (no toll now) drive straight through the roundabout at the exit of the harbour bridge, following the lane marked "City Centre". Follow the road along the waterfront and up Devonport Road ~ this is the "Main Street" of downtown Tauranga. "Farmers Department Store" is on the corner of Elizabeth Street; You'll then pass First Avenue and then turn left into Second Avenue. You will see The Tauranga reception signage as you approach. |

| Things To Do |
Take a ferry ride across the harbour, a walk around the Mount or up to the summit for great views followed by a soak or swim in one of the many thermal pools. Shop in downtown Tauranga or linger over lunch or dinner at a seafront or sidewalk café or visit Mills Reef or Morton Estate wineries, maybe a wander around the Historic Village. Perhaps a round of golf at one of over a dozen local Golf Courses. |
