Situated on the banks of the tranquil Irwin River, the faithfully restored Priory Hotel, built in 1881, is steeped in unique colonial history and is just minutes from Dongara town centre. Enjoy the comfort and elegance of spacious accommodation, featuring jarrah floorboards, high ceilings and wide timber verandas. Relax by the pool, experience the culinary delights of the 1881 restaurant or just enjoy a cold drink at the Colonial Bar. Drive to the nearby marina and white sandy beaches to soak up the sun, or charter a boat for some world class fishing. Indulge in some diving, snorkelling or just watch the sunset over the blue Indian Ocean. Explore the historic memorial walk in our gardens, or stroll along the Heritage Trail - all on the doorstep! The unforgettable stone buildings comprising the Priory Hotel were formerly an inn, then was converted to the colonial St Dominic's Priory run by the Dominican Sister, and exclusive girls school, until 1971. The magnificent two-storey main building comprises the Colonial Bar with its wonderfully timbered interior and shaded veranda, the reception area and our stunningly restored 1881 restaurant. The adjacent two-storey stone accommodation building features a variety of room types to suit all budgets and tastes. Our spacious and airy rooms feature beautiful glossy traditional polished jarrah floor boards, high ceilings and sash windows, looking onto wide shady verandas. Ensuite rooms are available and all linen is provided. Period furniture complements the elegant surrounds. Guest rooms lead off our wide jarrah-boarded corridors and our timber staircase is not to be missed! There are currently 21 rooms available including a family unit with self catering facilities. Ideal for families with our extensive enclosed shady gardens, or that special romantic getaway, the Priory Hotel also caters for groups, corporate functions. Our Outback Room can accommodate a function or meeting of 100 guests and is styled in the same tradition as the main building, with lots of exposed timber and high ceilings. The Outback room is air-conditioned and has catering facilities. The Priory Hotel also has an entire acre of shaded, terraced garden area, perfect for expo's or conferences. This really is the ideal out-of-city conference venue with all the facilities the busy blue-chip or smaller companies may require. We even have an exciting and slightly spooky night tour available to add a fun and novel dimension to your event. And what better place to hold your very special wedding then the Priory Hotel - we even have our very own historic chapel complete with stained glass windows and chandelier! We cater for all your needs, taking the pressure off your big day. No wedding is too small or too large. Your guests can stay in our beautiful rooms with no need to travel after your reception. | Getting There |
From Perth, head north on the Great Northern Hwy, then turn left onto the Brand Hwy. After several hours on the Brand Hwy you will reach a T-junction where you turn left (the Brand Hwy continues on this route as you turn left). Turn left at the main sign for Dongara and Port Denison (you can't miss the large red crayfish at the turn off). |

Take in the vast grounds of the Priory Hotel built in 1881 and converted into the Dominican Sisters Prior and exclusive girl’s school. In the 1970's it was remodelled into a hotel and has been lovingly restored to it's former glory. On the first Saturday of every month visit the art and craft markets at the Priory Hotel Visit the only Olive Oil Processing facility in the Midwest! Don't miss the Fisherman's Lookout-Obelisk at Port Denison for fantastic panoramic coastal views If you love Golf, visit the 18 holes grassed course. The Old Police Station is now the Irwin District Museum and is well worth a visit especially to find out about the pioneering days and their hardships and triumphs. The Blue Ocean gallery can provide a lovely afternoon diversion For the young at heart the skate boarding park at Suft Beach offers hours of fun Explore the historic memorial walk (within our grounds) Walk the river banks, directly opposite the hotel or the more adventurous can hire a kayak. Charter a fishing boat for a world class fishing trip! Drive to the nearby marina and explore the jetties Local diving and snorkelling Soak up the sun on the many sandy, uncrowded beaches. South beach has miles of white sand just waiting for you! Stroll along the Irwin River Nature Trail and spot pelicans, black swans and much more wildlife.
