Things To Do Sightseeing tours (available at front desk).

Always at the top of everyone's list of favorite travel destinations, San Francisco offers a remarkable number of cultural attractions and world famous landmarks set against a background of extraordinary natural beauty. San Francisco Bay Area is a reflection of the diverse communities that - as much as our famous picture postcard vistas - make the city what it is!

Fisherman's Wharf:
You can still see the fishing fleet along the piers and sports fishing boats take visitors out for a day of fishing (call 650-871-1691 for information). Fisherman’s Wharf has changed into a bustling area, full of family attractions, numerous shopping and sightseeing options, and fine restaurants. Within walking distance are PIER 39, Anchorage Center, The Cannery, and Ghirardelli Square. PIER 45 is the new home for Musee´ Mechanique, with a collection of vintage games and toys, the MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO, and the USS PAMPANITO submarine museum.

At the end of Hyde Street, by the cable car plaza, is Hyde Street Pier, with historic ships maintained by the National Park Service. Open daily 10am-5pm. Located at the foot of Polk Street at the edge of Fisherman’s Wharf is Aquatic Park, which includes San Francisco Maritime Museum and a beach popular with picnickers. Ferries leave from Piers 41 and 43 1/2 for scenic bay cruises and stops at such destinations as Alcatraz, Angel Island, Sausalito, Vallejo and Oakland.

Nob Hill and Russian Hill:
At the top of California Street is Nob Hill, the site on which San Francisco’s early millionaires – Gold Rush and railroad nabobs (slang for wealthy men, which gave Nob Hill its name) – built their mansions. At 1100 California Street at Jones is Grace Cathedral, known for its treasured furnishings including doors which are replicas of Ghiberti’s “Gates of Paradise” and its restored stained glass windows.
The CABLE CAR POWERHOUSE AND MUSEUM, 1201 Mason Street at Washington, is the working center of the cable-car system, with on-site gallery and gift shop. Adjacent Russian Hill offers steep streets and remarkable views. On the east side of Russian Hill sits the SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE, 800 Chestnut Street, which has been educating artists since the 1800s. Stop into the Diego Rivera Gallery to view his 1931 mural "The Making of A Fresco Showing the Building of a City."

Our famous Lombard Street, dubbed “crookedest street in the world,” winds in a series of eight hairpin turns in a single block between Hyde and Leavenworth. Built in the 1920s to accommodate the steep incline, this landscaped street has recently been redirecting car traffic during peak times, so plan for possible delays.
