| Getting There |
From Auckland Airport, head south on the highway and then south on to the motorway with your direction being "Hamilton". After Bombay, you take the turn off to the Coromandel Peninsula. Follow SH25 to Thames. At the Thames Junction, you have 2 choices Scenic & longest route (3 hrs): (1) to turn left and take the west coast road through Thames to Coromandel Town then over the hills to the east coast beaches and down to Whitianga (passing lots of nice beaches on the way). Drive through Whitianga and follow the road and signs to Cooks Beach/Ferry Landing (40 mins from Whitianga). A good route to take if you're wanting to see Coromandel Town and a scenic drive on the coast. OR Shortest route (1 hr): (2) turn right at the junction, then left 2kms up the road and stay on SH25 to Tairua. (Tairua: for beautiful views, take the highest hill, Paku Hill to look out over Pauanui Beach.) From Tairua, drive on for 30 mins still on SH25 to Cooks Beach/Ferry Landing. Look out for a big blue sign for junction to Hot Water Beach/Hahei/Cooks Beach. Don't go on to Whitianga! Stay on Hot Water Beach Rd for 2km and turn left at the Ferry Landing/Cooks Beach turnoff. Follow 'The Mussel Bed' black & white directional signs to Cooks Beach - 9 kms from turnoff. You can't miss us - we are next to Cooks Beach Hall & tennis courts. |
