In the heart of the Bay of Islands, BASE is the FUNKIEST hostel in Paihia, and the only one with a bar! From the sundeck to the courtyard full of giant palm trees, our friendly atmosphere buzzes with laid back beach styles and tropical vibes! We provide friendly, funky, clean and cosy accommodation just metres from the beach and only two minutes walk to Paihia's wharf, ferrys, shopping and cafes. Every room has it’s own balcony overlooking the spa and pool and courtyard full of giant palm trees. The 8 Bed En suite Dorm Room - clean and comfortable, non smoking room, shower and toilet in the room, heating in all rooms and full linen is provided for your comfort! Rate is for 1 person in a single bunk bed in the 8 bed dorm. The Female only SANCTUARY DORM is for ladies who like to be pampered! This 8 bed dorm is split into two 4 bed dorms, non smoking room comprising private en suite bathroom with toilet and shower in the room, complimentary tea and coffee, and our environmentally friendly shampoo and conditioner. Bed has feather pillows and duvet and made up with fresh linen. In addition the room features full length mirrors and hairdryer. Rate is for 1 person in a single bunk bed in the dorm. Fantastic price for that extra bit of luxury in a fantastic location, only 50 meters from the beach. We are a 4 Star Backpacker Qualmark rating, and at Base Backpackers Paihia we pride ourselves on our cleanliness. Every room is serviced and cleaned everyday, as are the ensuite bathrooms. The communal kitchen is cleaned three times a day to provide guests with a clean environment to cook and enjoy their meals. Our bar has nightly BBQs, activities, fun and games, including weekly Quiz nights, dress ups and drink specials. It is a place to meet and get to know other travellers and locals. The reception and travel crew are a mixture of locals and traveller that came to stay and never left! They love the Bay of Islands and can help you make the most of your stay by telling you the best places to go. The sunny bar deck is a fun and cool place to chill out after a day out on the water, and enjoy a cool pint of beer. On check in you will required to fill in a check in form and pay a $20 Key Bond (refundable on check out when you return the key). After hours (7pm-10pm) check in is in the bar, where you pay the $20 key bond, and you see reception next morning. |

| Getting There |
We are located 50m from the beach at 18 Kings Road and marked with a red X at the gate. Just 5 minutes walk from the bus terminal, and some bus companies will drop you off outside our gate on request. The Kerikeri airport is a 25 minute drive from Paihia, and airport shuttles are available. |

| Things To Do |
A variety of activities are available in the Bay of Islands, from swimming with wild dolphins, sailing, diving the Rainbow Warrior, fishing, horse riding, trips to the top of New Zealand (Cape Reinga) and much more. All this can be booked right at the hostel by staff that have experienced much of what the Bay of Islands has to offer, and with many special discounts. |
