Ashton Gate Guest House is a heritage listed (built 1880), 4 star property providing superb Bed and Breakfast accommodation and winner of the Hosted Accommodation catergory in the Tasmanian Tourism Awards 2005. Delicious cooked breakfasts including home baked bread, home made yoghurt and stewed in season Tasmanian fruits are the perfect way to start your day in Launceston. Easy access, on the way to and from the airport, a few minutes walk to the city centre, restaurants, cafes, hotels and shops make Ashton Gate your perfect home away from home. Ashton Gate is licenced and some of Tasmania's finest wines and ales can be enjoyed in the comfort of our guest lounge along with complimentary tea, coffee and port. Home made cake and buscuits are usually served about 4 pm and its advisable not to be late. Centrally located within easy walking distance of the city centre, restaurants and attractions the house overlooks St Georges Square. You can stroll across the park to the local coffee shop or visit the Greenoaks Gallery and Design Inn. The house was built in 1880 as a family home and retains a calm and homely atmosphere. The seven ensuite rooms and self contained cottage in the Old Servants Quarters have all been recently refurbished and fitted with quality fittings and furnishings. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The cosy guest lounge is a wonderful meeting place for guests and provides lots of little extras that will make your stay that little bit special and memorable. The beautiful garden has been mass planted with roses, lavenders and hydrangeas and is a delight to explore. The kitchen garden provides produce for our popular cooked breakfast which is included in the tarriff. Served in the breakfast room overlooking the magnificent oak trees in the square you will enjoy a wonderful, relaxed breakfast cooked to order from a menu featuring the best of fresh Tasmanian produce. Guest facilities - ensuites, mini bar, tea & coffee making facilities in all rooms and the guest lounge, television, hairdryer and irons in all rooms, laundry facilities, some off street parking, internet and fax facilities, centrally heated and cooled, all rooms non smoking. |

| Getting There |
Airport Shuttle Bus meets flights and drops off at Ashton Gate - fare $10.00 per person. Taxi fares - approx $25.00 to $30.00. There is a bus service which operates from Hobart and Devonport to Launceston. By car: To reach Ashton Gate from the southern inlet proceed towards the city on Bathurst Street where you will pass Frederick St on your right. Take the next right hand turn into Elizabeth Street and follow this street through 4 sets of lights and up the hill to a roundabout. Ashton Gate is on the left corner of the roundabout and reception is via the front door. |

| Things To Do |
Launceston is the third oldest city in Australia and it is easy to fill in a couple of days just taking in the history and architecture and exploring the city area with most attractions being within walking distance. At the end of High Street you will find our beautiful City Park, with its lovely old trees and Conservatory, Albert Hall, the Design Centre, Radio Museum and the resident Japanese snow monkeys who are always loads of fun. Boags Brewery is nearby and tours are conducted several times a day. The National Automobile Museum is opposite the park. It is short walk to the Seaport area, Tamar River cruises, Cataract Gorge recreational area, Penny Royal World, the Museum and Planetarium and the Inveresk Arts Centre. Launceston has a vibrant retail sector interspersed with lots of coffee and gift shops and galleries. Princes Square in Elizabeth Street is a peaceful spot with stately old oak trees, a beautiful fountain and surrounded on all sides by lovely old churches and buildings. Launceston is also a good base from which to travel the Wine Route, visit the Lavender Farm, and explore the many small character villages and historic homes to the south of the city. |
