| Things To Do |
Hong Kong is a city that has it all and from The Landmark Mandarin Oriental you can see it all and do it all. Hong Kong is 70% National Park, offers boat trips, peak trails, helicopter rides, stunning architecture and cultural festivals but when it comes to leisure most of our guests will find it hard to leave the shops. The Landmark Atrium is the fashion nucleus of the city housing more than 100 of the world’s leading brands, whilst adjacent is the largest Armani store in Asia and the first Harvey Nichols store outside of the UK. Below we have detailed some of the major sites and activities in Hong Kong, but if you have any specific interests, or require further information our concierge will be delighted to help you. 1. Horse racing is phenomenally popular in Hong Kong and the average betting turnover per race is the highest in the world. Happy Valley racecourse is fifteen minutes from the hotel. Alternatively there is the Sha Tin racecourse in the New Territories. (Location - 18 Minutes/3.5 Km or 2.2 Miles) 2. Lan Kwai Fong and Soho, South of Hollywood Road are two small areas with a vast conglomeration of restaurants, clubs and bars with a huge variety of themes from around the world. For a casual night out this is the place to head to. (Location - 5 Minutes/0.5 Km or 0.3 Miles) 3. Sai Kung in the New Territories, offers a similar though less remote flavour of Hong Kong’s rural life. For the more adventurous you can haggle for a speed boat which will take you across to a tiny island with paths through a tiny village and a Tin Hau temple. (Location - 50 minutes/24 Km or 15 Miles) 4. Lantau is now home to Disneyland, Lama and Cheung Chow are both islands with quiet paths winding through sleepy villages with restaurants lining the waterside. If you want to see a different side to Hong Kong life these islands are worth a visit. (Location - 80 Minutes/52 Km or 32 Miles) 5. The Hong Kong Arts Festival which runs from early February to mid March is host to some of the world’s best orchestras, theatre companies and performers. If you are travelling during this period you may be interested to check this programme. (Location - 12 Minutes/1.8 Km or 1.1 Miles) 6. The Cultural Centre on Kowloon side and City Hall on Hong Kong Island have some excellent concert programmes. (Location - Cultural Central: 25 Minutes/7.4 Km or 4.6 Miles & City Hall: 5 Minutes/0.7 Km or 0.4 Miles) 7. Hong Kong Museum of Art within the Cultural Centre in Tsim Tsa Tsui displays Chinese fine arts as well as some special exhibitions. The Flagstaff House Chinese Tea ware museum is one of the world’s most obscure museums. Located in Hong Kong Park, ten minutes walk from the hotel. (Location - 25 Minutes/7.4 Km or 4.6 Miles) 8. The Peak is Hong Kong’s most dramatic and easily accessible site. Offering 360 degree views of the island and harbour as well as some of the most expensive and luxurious homes in Hong Kong. The display of nightime neon from this vantage point is simply breathtaking. (Location - 20 Minutes/5.6 Km or 3.5 Miles) 9. The Star Ferry trip across the harbour affords terrific views of the receding island which is especially dramatic at night. Whilst a major mode of transport between Hong Kong Island and Tsim Tsa Tsui, it is in fact one of the most scenic journeys you can do in the world. (Location - 7 Minutes/0.7 Km or 0.4 Miles) 10. The Pedder Building is home to the first Shanghai Tang store and on the many floors above are numerous factory outlets, selling sample clothing and seconds. (Location - 1 Minute/Across the hotel) |
