Maryborough is located in the heart of the Central Goldfields region and is approximately a two hour drive northwest of melbourne. Our beautiful township is close to the mid point between Ballarat and Bendigo and is the perfect place to base from to explore many of the fascinating villages and hamlets nearby. Visitors should take the time to explore Carisbrook, Dunolly, Majorca, Moliagul, Bealiba, Talbot and Timor. Our history is steeped in the gold rush with gold first discovered here in 1850, Prospectors continue to come to the Maryborough district today in the elusive search for alluvial gold. Gold prospecting adventure classes and hire of detectors and associated equipment are available from Coiltek Gold Centre. Vistors to our town admire and wonder at the magnificent historical buildings which dominate the centre of town - from the Post Office and Town Hall, to the 1860's Fire Station which now houses the Central Goldfields Art Gallery. The Art Gallery is home to two original Pro Hart paintings among many other wonderful works. No trip to Maryborough would be complete without visiting the majestic Maryborough Railway Station which houses the Maryborough Station Antique Emporium.
