***Voted the BEST hotel in Thailand 2007 and among the TOP TEN hotels in the world by the resspected Institutional Investor magazine in its annual poll of readers rating the World's Best Hotel*** The Sukhothai, an oasis of calm amid the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, presents travellers with more than 750 years of Thai art and architecture. Behind the entrance, along Bangkok’s Embassy Row, the palm-lined driveway and six acres of flower gardens and lily ponds recapture the serenity of Thailand’s golden age. The hotel takes its inspiration and its name from Sukhothai, the kingdom’s first capital, which reigned from 1238 to 1376. The Sukhothai shunned the high-rise trend when it opened in 1991. Instead of one lofty tower, simple pitched roofs cap an enclave of four- to nine-storey buildings. In brass lamp holders, terra-cotta frames and wall hangings, the interiors repeat scenes from some of the nation’s greatest epics. The lobby courtyard’s reflection pond mirrors replicas of 13th century Sukhothai stupas. Long views of bold architectural symmetry and the use of teak, granite, mirror, glass, ceramic, metal and the finest Thai fabrics recall the palatial salons of the ancient capital. At the same time, the hotel incorporates the latest technology and comforts of the new millennium. Stunning teak-floored bathrooms equal the size of most standard hotel rooms. Guests find oversized bathtubs, separate shower and toilet enclosures, hair dryers, bathrobes, phones and luxurious toiletries. Ground floor suites provide exceptionally high ceilings. Private balconies facing the inner courtyard and lily ponds are idyllic for breakfast or afternoon tea. The Sukhothai Suite occupies the top floor of the main building and commands sweeping views of the gardens and city skyline. For guests wishing to combine business with sport, The Sukhothai maintains close ties with Bangkok’s finest golf clubs. On-site leisure facilities include a fully-equipped spa, a health club with gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, steambath, whirlpool and massage, a 25-metre swimming pool, a squash court, floodlit tennis court and a hair salon. Gourmands arrive from all over the city to enjoy The Sukhothai’s dining venues. The Celadon offers award-winning Thai cuisine in two traditional Thai pavilions and two spacious open-air terraces. The Colonnade provides a less formal setting for light meals and snacks as well as an outstanding buffet lunch. The Sunday Brunch is famous throughout Bangkok. The Zuk Bar, located adjacent to the hotel’s gardens, provides the perfect environment for cocktails and after dinner digestifs. The hotel’s Private Dining Room brings a new dimension to corporate or private entertainment. Decorated in exquisite Sukhothai taste, the rooms overlook five replicas of traditional Thai chedis set in a lily pond. Lobby Salons serve cocktails and light menus all day and evening, as well as traditional tea in the afternoon, with a Chocolate Buffet every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The Pool Terrace Café & Bar offers al fresco all-day dining and health drinks to sunbathers and guests throughout the day. Discriminating travelers recognise the mixture of superb facilities and superior service. Guest at The Sukhothai also experience the sense of tranquillity and well-being associated with life in Thailand’s golden age.
