Our NEW unique accommodation opened January 2006. Franz Josef Glacier Country Retreat building’s design was inspired by a historical West Coast homestead and offers 12 rooms the finest quality accommodation facilities available in Franz Josef, with a hearty homemade farmhouse breakfast available to start your day. Our 4 star plus accommodation is set in 200 acres of peaceful family farmland, overlooking picturesque Lake Mapourika, 5 minutes away from Franz Josef village. An on site Bar & Restaurant - Mapourika Restaurant, is the newest attraction to the Retreat. Offering New Zealand Home Cooked delectable cuisine, the Restaurant caters for guests and off-the-road diners and is ideal for corporate functions. By staying with us you get to experience the beauty 'Glacier Country' offers, as well as to share the local history and knowledge of this special place, where our pioneer family has resided for over 100 years. We invite you to get away from it all and come and enjoy the fabulous accommodation and activities in our part of the world. Each room has been individually decorated and are centrally heated, with French doors opening onto the balcony and have magnificent views of the surrounding snow capped mountains or lake. The Guest's lounge has a large open fire and 42" Plasma TV. Enjoy a soak in the guest spa-bathroom after a hike on the glacier. Outdoor open fire/BBQ and a guest laundry for all guests to use. Café on-site offering Devonshire teas, espresso coffee and fresh home baking.
