National Parks regulations state that all vehicles, execept for 4WD, must carry snow chains when driving on Kosciuszko rd within National Park boundaries. Driving from Cooma: 1. Head south-west on Snowy Mountains Hwy towards Vale St, go through 1 roundabout 6.9 km 2. Continue onto Jindabyne Rd (signs for KOSCIUSZKO ROAD) 45.2 km 3. Continue onto Kosciuszko Rd, go through 2 roundabouts 12.2 km 4. Slight right to stay on Kosciuszko Rd 31.6 km Driving from Thredbo: 1. Head north-east on Friday Drive towards Bobuck Ln, go through 1 roundabout 1.9 km 2. Turn left onto Alpine Way 30.7 km 3. Turn left onto Kosciuszko Rd 31.5 km Skitube - Alpine Railway Skitube is a convenient and innovative train ride from Bullocks Flat through the Ramshead range onto Perisher Valley in 10 minutes, then another 7 minutes to Blue Cow. The distance is 8.5km, 6.3km is underground making it one of the longest underground train tunnels in Australia and travelling as deep as 550m below the surface so it's a great experience in itself. There's also FREE day and overnight parking at Bullocks Flat. Travel between Perisher and Blue Cow is FREE with any valid Lift Ticket. By Air Snowy Mountains Airport Visit Brindabella Airlines for schedule details and to book your flights form Sydney to the Snowy Mountains, or phone 1300 66 88 24. Flights start at $129 one way inclusive of taxes. Book online and earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points as you go. Personal Transfer services involve the exclusive use of the vehicle as well as the ability to stop for groceries or ski hire (subject to time constraints, extra charges apply). Canberra International Airport Tel. 02 6275 2236 (recorded information) Canberra Airport is a 2.5 hour drive from Perisher and a 40 minute flight from Sydney. Canberra International Airport is located about 7 kilometres (10 mins) from the city centre. Regular connections are available to and from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth by both Qantas and Virgin Blue. For Airport transfers to and from the Snowy Mountains call 1300 655 811. Transport By Road Perisher is an easy 5.5 to 6 hour drive from Sydney via Canberra and Cooma or 7 hours from Melbourne with more than half the distance on freeway standard or dual carriage roads. Kosciuszko Road accesses Perisher, Smiggins and Guthega from Jindabyne. Motorists are legally required to carry properly fitting chains in any vehicle other than 4WD's in a ‘snow-ice' risk section within the National Park. It's an easy half hour drive from Jindabyne in good weather. Entry to the National Park is $27 per car per day in winter and $16 per car per day in summer. Perisher is Australia's most popular snow holiday destination. Located in the picturesque Kosciuszko National Park in South Eastern NSW, it's vast expanse makes it the Southern Hemisphere's biggest alpine resort. Its varied terrain is suitable for all ages and ability levels from first timers right up to experts. Perisher Fireworks - Tuesday Nights Tuesday is Perisher's night of lights! Don't miss Perisher's fantastic fireworks display from 7:30pm - it's free for all to see! Weather permitting. Every Tuesday from 25th June - 24th September 2013, in conjunction with night skiing & snowboarding. Perisher Night Skiing and Boarding - Tuesday and Saturday Nights Try night skiing and snowboarding under the stars! Open from 6:00pm to 9:00pm the Village 8 Express chairlift will speed you to the top of Front Valley. You can have more fun while you squeeze in more runs, plus, freestylers can take on the PlayStation Slopestyle Park under lights too! Smiggin Holes Night Skiing and Fireworks - Wednesday Nights A safe and fun-packed night out for the little ones on Zoe's ski carpet, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and from 8:00pm a fireworks spectacular not to be missed! Every Wednesday from 26th June . Tube Town Conveniently located on Mt. Piper, adjacent to the car park, Tube Town has specially groomed lanes allowing fun lovers and thrill-seekers of all ages to enjoy a high-speed ride down the slopes and a lift back to the top, on a purpose built lift. No skill is required, just the desire to have fun. Snow Tubing is a fantastic low-cost snow experience for first time Perisher visitors in a fun, safe and organised environment as well as offering an exciting experience for seasoned snow lovers. Tobogganing Tobogganing is one of the traditional childhood delights of the snowfields that's great fun for kids and parents alike. Although toboggans are prohibited on all Perisher ski slopes to avoid collisions with skiers and snowboarders; a designated toboggan slope is located beside Perisher Valley Carpark on Pipers Ridge. Toboggans are available from Perisher Snowsports Hire located in the Perisher Centre. Nordic Cross Country and Telemark Skiing and Snow-shoeing Explore more of the picturesque Snowy Mountains and go on a cross-country skiing adventure. Perisher boasts over 100km of marked cross-country trails perfect for a peaceful walk, glide or a heart pumping workout. Cross-country skiing Perisher has an extensive network of groomed, undulating and sheltered trails that weave through the magical Snow Gums. Whether it's a peaceful glide or a heart-pumping challenge, it's your choice. Snow-shoeing Come explore the hidden and secret places of Australia's largest Alpine National Park, Kosciuszko. Snow-shoeing is a perfect way to discover Australia's unique wilderness and wildlife, at your own pace, for as short or as long as you like. Experience a landscape very different to Europe and North America, a place with no pine trees, only the gnarled twisted limbs and mottled orange and green trunks of the unique snow gums. Snow-shoeing is as simple as one foot in front of the next and fitness is not an issue. Half day guided tours are available and these include a gourmet lunch. For that little added adventure, try the famous "Roof top of Australia Tour".
