Opened in November 2000, the four star Aquila Eco Lodges is a small scale, family owned and operated, multi award winning eco accommodation business. Aquila has won Tourism Victoria awards (ecotourism) in 2003, 2004 and 2005 (Hall of Fame) as well as many environmental and tourism awards. Aquila is 6 km from the regional town of Dunkeld, 3 hours’ drive from Melbourne. It is located in the Southern Grampians, with Hamilton, the nearest Regional city, 30 kms to the West. Aquila, at the base of Mt Abrupt, is surounded on three sides by Grampians National Park. The fourth side adjoins the picturesque Grampians golf Course. The two lofthouses and two treehouses have the comforts of home, and more: resting on the daybeds, watching the wildlife through huge picture windows, and generally recuperating from the stresses of life. Rated with four stars, the lofthouses sleep up to 6 people and the treehouses sleep up to 4 people, but is ideally suited to a couple. The 100 acre Aquila property is covenanted with Trust for Nature; it is also accredited with Ecotourism Australia. Its ethos is one of sustainable living, along with conserving and preserving the natural environment,its flora and fauna. Great walking tracks are available both on the property and within short driving distances.
