The sweeping lawn and lovely old trees which frame Hartley Homestead, prepare one for the gracious accommodation within. A grand 1900s mud brick homestead set on the banks of the picturesque Clutha River, Hartley Homestead is just a few minutes stroll from the historic gold mining township of Clyde.

Clyde is fast becoming a destination in its own right, being the perfect place to spend at least a couple of nights either at the beginning or at the completion of the Otago Central Rail Trail and its proximity to wineries and ski fields makes it a great place to stay all year round.

Hosts, Melanie and Rex have chosen to relinquish their high pressure city lives for the more sedate pace of Central Otago. An evening glass of wine on the expansive verandah provides an opportunity to learn a little about the area from very knowledgeable hosts and to get a feel for the civilised pace of life in the deep South. A soak in the hot tub after a leisurely dinner in the village, relaxation mode well and truly sets in. The mature fruit trees in the grounds, relics from Molyneaux Orchard, provide the preserves and jams served for breakfast at Hartley Homestead, and the Pinot Noir vines at the rear of the property are in full production.

A collection of art, some dating back to the 1800s, and some produced by Melanie who is herself an established artist in her own right, adorns Hartley Homestead, complimenting the carefully designed décor. Melanie and Rex have managed to sympathetically renovate, retaining the integrity of the building, and provide the creature comforts a guest would expect, gaining them a 4 star Qualmark and Silver Enviro award.

There are two beautifully appointed bedrooms with guest lounge in the homestead and a very private super-king bed unit in the grounds.
