| Things To Do |
Manchester, the capital of the North, is a truly wonderful city, which cleverly combines historical and cultural heritage with a colourful, modern backdrop. The city boasts stunning historical buildings such as The Town Hall (a "classic of its age") and the Cathedral yet mixes this with the contemporary regeneration of the commercial heart of the city and the nearby Salford Quays. The tram, train and bus network in Manchester make it easy for visitors to navigate around the city and see every attraction it holds including its two famous football clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City. A visit to Salford Quays is a must and the famous Lowry Museum is resplendent in silver and has something of the air of Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum. There are two auditoria, the Lowry galleries and bars and restaurants. Nearby is the Manchester Shipping Canal, a 35-mile watercourse that is now surrounded by executive apartments, a designer outlet village, restaurants and entertainment. The Midland is also within walking distance of the Bridgewater Opera House, Palace Theatre and GMEX Centre, giving easy access to a whole range of events. |
