| Things To Do |
Set apart from the intense hustle and bustle of the main tourist trails, Locanda Gaffaro is within convenient reach of the most interesting monuments and museums. From Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (5 minutes) - one of the largest churches in Venice and a fine example of Franciscan architecture - to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (built in 1515 and famous for the works by Tintoretto which grace the walls of its rooms), to Campo San Paolo (St Paul's Square, 15 minutes), which together with the splendid views of the most important canal in Venice, the Grand Canal are some of the most beautiful and unique places in the world. Locanda Gaffaro is also a great starting point for walks through the campi (squares) and vicoli (narrow streets) to the Accademia bridge (15 minutes) where visitors can enjoy the splendid Galleria dell' Accademia, one of the most impressive museums in Italy, with a collection which represents the history of Venetian and Veneto art with works by Bellini, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Veronese and others. From there, it is a short walk to the world famous Guggenheim Collection, a fine collection of 20th Century artworks created by the wealthy Peggy Guggenheim with paintings by Picasso, Kandinsky, Pollock, MIrò, Duchamps and Braque and other works by Balla, Severini, Morandi and Modigliani. |
