Gracing the banks of the River Thames, The Royal Horseguards began life as the National Liberal Club, offering its members a sanctuary from the rough-and-tumble of Westminster politics. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse, whose architectural legacy in London includes the Natural History Museum, it played host to some of Britain’s greatest writers, thinkers and political leaders: the foundation stone in our cellars was laid by William Gladstone, one of five Club members who went on to serve as Prime Minister.

More than 120 years on, this magnificent 5 star hotel near Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square and The Strand, has been restored to its full Victorian splendour. But we’ve never forgotten its origins as a warm, welcoming and relaxing haven in the very heart of London. The views you’ll enjoy from your room or our restaurant over the River Thames and landmarks including the London Eye are truly breathtaking.

Getting There To reach The Royal Horseguards by road:

From Parliament Square, head towards Big Ben (this will be on your right). Take the first left after Westminster Underground station onto the Victoria Embankment, with the River Thames and London Eye on your right. At the second set of traffic lights, take the left fork into Northumberland Avenue, then second left into Great Scotland Yard. Turn left into Scotland Place, then left again into Whitehall Place, before turning right into Whitehall Court. The nearest car parking is in Spring Gardens. To programme your sat-nav, use the postcode SW1A 2BN

If you’re coming to The Royal Horseguards by rail:

Mainline rail: Charing Cross station is a two-minute walk.

London Underground: Embankment Tube station, which is on the Circle, District, Bakerloo and Northern lines, is directly opposite the hotel. There is also a Tube station at Charing Cross.

And for air travellers:

If you’re flying into London City Airport, take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Tower Gateway, then the Circle or District line (westbound) to Embankment.

From London Heathrow, we recommend the Heathrow Express: this runs direct from the airport to London Paddington in just 15 minutes (20 from Terminal 5) and there’s a train every quarter of an hour. The Gatwick Express runs a similar service into Victoria. From either terminus, you can take the Underground to Embankment station, opposite The Royal Horseguards.
Parking You can park securely and conveniently in Westminster City Council's Trafalgar Car Park, Spring Gardens at competitive rates. The car park is open 24 hours, has disabled, motorcycle, and bicycle bays. It is covered by 24 hour CCTV
