Established in 1882, Peppers Martinborough Hotel is an exclusive Peppers Retreat offering historic boutique accommodation near Wellington, at the heart of Martinborough Wine Village - one of New Zealand's finest wine destinations. Martinborough is a quirky little village of just 1300 people, encircled by 30 vineyards – most of which are within walking distance from the hotel - and with a leafy square at its heart. This picturesque wine village is situated in the Wairarapa region on the North Island, 75 minutes drive east of Wellington, and three hours south of Hawkes Bay. Taking pride of place at the entrance to the square is Peppers Martinborough Hotel. Developer Edmund Buckeridge described it in 1882 as "one of the finest hostelries ever erected in any inland town in New Zealand". The hotel hasn't forgotten its past, and it's that sense of history and place that will charm you as soon as you step in the front door - from the battered suitcase of a gentleman traveller at the top of the stairs, to the accommodation's sloping floors and olden day sketches of local personalities adorning the walls. Today Peppers Martinborough Hotel offers character, comfort and old style personal attention, making it ideal for a romantic weekend away, an indulgent escape or accommodation as part of a holiday or vacation. Diners in the richly decorated and refined hotel restaurant can enjoy the ever-changing menu of modern and contemporary food as well as a wide range of excellent wines produced within walking distance of the hotel. The Hotel’s famed Bar with its collection of memorabilia and historic photos provides comfortable space where locals and guests alike can pull a chair up to the grand antique oak table or gather round one of the wine barrels in front of the cosy fire. |

| Things To Do |
Martinborough: Martinborough Wine Village has become one of New Zealand’s best food and wine destinations. Just one hour's drive from the capital city, Wellington, the village is a favourite destination for those who feel a need to escape the city and discover a relaxed, country ambience that is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The key attraction of Martinborough (apart from its high number of sunshine hours and low rainfall) is wine and all that goes with wine - tastings, buying, talking with winemakers, walking through vineyards and generally absorbing the atmosphere. But the scale of the town is perhaps its greatest advantage. Everything is boutique-scale. The big wine producers are absent. Visitors can park theirs car in the village square and walk to the vineyards. The nearest is only 10 minutes away. Apart from wine-related activities, there are numerous leisure pursuits to enjoy such as golf at the picturesque Martinborough course, tennis, trout fishing, bush walking in the Tararuas, quad biking with McLeods Adventures, visiting the unique Stonehenge Aotearoa - a full-scale working adaptation of Stonehenge located approximately 15 minutes from Martinborough or just indulging in a little retail therapy in nearby Greytown. Perhaps the best way to spend a summer afternoon is to take a gentle bike ride around the vineyards - a great way to taste and travel! |
