Crabbes Creek Cottages were completed April 2004. Six private, free-standing, self-contained timber cottages (1 for disabled - request #2) are carefully positioned on 20 acres to allow guests enjoyment of the quiet rural atmosphere, take leisurely bush walks, picnic by the dam, practise golf or explore the local valley & hinterland surrounds. The property is eco-sensitive using tankwater & an aerated system. The magnificent gardens are mainly native with patches of rainforest. The birdlife is all the music you will need. Photographers, writers & artists are certain to find inspiration in this magical valley. Crabbes Creek village, the most southern in Tweed Shire, is off Tweed Valley Way, the old Pacific Highway, with very convenient access to the many beautiful beaches in the area, such as Pottsville, Cabarita, Wooyung, South Golden & Brunswick Heads beaches. Visit towns such as Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads or Murwillumbah, Uki, Stokers Siding or explore the natural coastal & inland wonders the Tweed & Byron Hinterland have to offer. You can be in Brisbane CBD via the M1 Freeway in 90 minutes & Gold Coast/Coolangatta Airport is approximately 30 minutes away. Depending on the season, guests can help themselves to a variety of fruit as well as herbs. Crabbes Creek General Store is a delight, like stepping back in time, & local pubs provide wonderful food. Excellent restaurants are a short drive away at Brunswick Heads, Billinudgel, Ocean Shores, Byron. Mooball's Victory Hotel is very close for meals & Brunswick Heads, 10 minutes south, offers a choice of great restaurants. Each cottage has a TV with DVD player & guests can borrow DVDs free of charge from a comprehensive library at Reception. Ceiling fans cool you in summer & heaters warm you in winter months. Guests can request iron, ironing board & hairdryer. Pure Earth chemical-free products are available at Reception as well as a range of essentials such as toothpaste, writing papers, playing cards etc. Cottages share a laundry; The Bales & The House have their own laundry. The property lends itself to relaxed family reunions & special occasions because it has great flexibility & a wide range of choices in accommodation - large groups may consider The House with the cottages. |

| Getting There |
Guests will need own transport. Crabbes Creek is the most southern village in Tweed Shire. From SOUTH, after travelling north from Byron Bay area on M1, pass the exit for Billinudgel and Humble Pies. Take the next exit on LEFT to Tweed Valley Way, scenic route 40 to Murwillumbah. It is also the exit for Yelgun Rest Area. Go over the Freeway & keep to the left, turn LEFT after the roundabout. Continue north parallel to the Freeway. You will see a Welcome to Tweed Shire sign on LEFT. Continue north, follow the bends & on your LEFT is Crabbes Creek Road. The Cottages are approximately 2.74 kms down Crabbes Creek Road on the right after #260 Green Valley & green colorbond garage. Call in at Reception, a low set cream house with a cement driveway. From NORTH, 3 routes: 1. SCENIC: After Banora Point bridge, take exit left (after Tropical Fruit World sign)called Tweed Valley Way, south to Murwillumbah, drive ahead over Burringbar Range (1 speed camera), a few kms after the "cow" town of Mooball (approx. 40 mins),turn next village RIGHT. 2. BEACH/COAST road: take Cudgen exit, bypass Kingscliff (if you like), then drive along coast through Cabarita, Hastings Point, Pottsville to Wooyung Beach. Wind through cane fields then after one-lane timber bridge you meet intersection with Tweed Valley Way. Turn RIGHT, then next LEFT into Crabbes Creek Road (approx. 40-45 mins). 3. The QUICKEST: Take M1 Freeway from Tweed Heads, following Ballina signs - under fatigue cameras keep to the right so you stay on M1 - continue at 110kph till it ends at LEFT exit signed Yelgun Rest Area, Brunswick Heads & Ocean Shores exits(approx. 20 mins). Follow signs LEFT to Tweed Valley Way Scenic route 40 to Murwillumbah. Turn LEFT onto Tweed Valley Way then as per directions from south - you follow the Freeway north for a while. NOTE: The owner lives #260 Green Valley. Reception is the next property, #274, on the right. |
| Parking |
Each cottage is accessed by its own road & has its own car parking space. There is a designated parking space for disabled guests & additional carparks for visitors. All roads are bituminised within the property. An electric gate requiring a code allows access to the cottages. Please advise ETA whenever possible. |
| Things To Do |
Crabbes Creek is a most convenient location to explore the Tweed & Byron Hinterland as well as the beaches & coastline of the Northern Rivers. You might want an energetic break - climb Mt Warning, abseil, kayak, surf, visit Minyon Falls & Rocky Creek Dam. Or just relax & enjoy the tranquility, the rural & bush ambience. Rekindle relationships with family & friends. Take a customised 4WD tour to the Border ranges, check out the Tweed Regional Gallery, Stokers Siding Pottery, Tropical Fruit World, take a river tour & catch a crab, visit Nimbin, walk to the licensed General Store, visit the many National Parks in the area, fish, learn to surf, go surfing, play golf on one of the area’s many excellent golf courses (Ocean Shores is closest), picnic in an idyllic hideaway, visit the weekend markets or stay in and check-out the DVD and book library /exchange at Reception – the choice is yours. There are many well-known music and other festivals in the area and the cottages can provide a welcome respite from a long day enjoying the Blues and Roots or Splendour in the Grass. The village, the creek & the valley are attractions in themselves. Visit the World Heritage Rainforest Centre in Murwillumbah for plenty of other ideas. Younger guests may consider Surf Schools, horseriding, visiting Macadamia Castle and Crystal Castle, having a day in Brunswick Heads on the pirate boats, playing among the pelicans and soldier crabs. Murwillumbah Cinema is a real treat - beverages & pizza can be served & eaten while you view -tickets are half-city prices. |
