At Victoria House you can relax in the friendly atmosphere of a fully restored Georgian private hotel of historical importance.
In 1834 Edward Henty established a farm at Portland Bay, founding Victoria's first permanent settlement. Today, no less than 100 historic buildings are still in use - one of the most outstanding being Victoria House, the double- storey bluestone home which first opened its doors as a hotel in 1856. During its 150-year history it has been a gracious private home, a seminary, government offices and, most recently, a Boutique Hotel (Bed and Breakfast).
Our restored, original bluestone boutique hotel is waiting to welcome you. Victoria House has nine individually decorated ensuite rooms with telephones, radio, TV, DVD, wireless broadband access and tea/coffee-making facilities.
You can relax in the traditional sitting room with its welcoming fire, read a book, sip on a port or sherry or rediscover the gentle art of conversation with old or new friends. Enjoy an Australian Farmhouse breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice in our lovely dining room or in the garden with its birds and flowers.
Walk to town, restaurants, the beach and Portland's attractions. Victoria House is only a few minutes drive to the magnificent Discovery Bay Coast and kilometres of walking tracks. Use Victoria House as a base to explore the Glenelg River area, Nelson, the Coonawarra Wine region and Mt Gambier. Whether you are holidaying in Portland, on business or breaking the journey between Adelaide and Melbourne, you'll be glad you chose to stay with us. We are 5 minutes walk from the foreshore, restaurants and shopping.
