Awake in the morning to the sounds of birds and watch the native wildlife grazing at your doorstep. Take a short bushwalk on the property or follow the Mt Arthur track to the summit. Curl up in front of the wood fire with a book, DVD or music. Perhaps indulge in a glass of local wine while bathing in the outdoor tub on the deck. | Things to do | The Dam Circuit walk This 30 minute circuit walk is around the perimeter of the clearing on the property through to the edge of the Melaleuca Forest back to the studio. There is a bench seat at the dam half way round the walk to take in the views. The Forest Walk This 45 minute walk takes you through melaleuca, dogwood, rainforest, manfern and eucalyptus forests passing limestone cliffs. The return passes the chook house and Trig point. Native animals and birdlife Dawn and dusk are great times to observe the native animals and birdlife either from the deck at the studio or from one of the walks. The studio torch is useful for night time spotting. Commune with the farm animals Get to know the Dorper sheep and our 17 chooks. Star gazing The clear skies at night are perfect for observing the stars. The studio provides Board games, art supplies, musical instruments, books and DVDs with a Tasmanian flavour, music iPod and docking station, TV (ABC and SBS) and a bath on the deck. Open the sealed bin and discover some treats that will top off this perfect scene. Leaning Church Vineyard 10 minutes from the Mountain is the Leaning Church Vineyard. The vineyard offers wine tasting as well as hosting weddings, degustation dinners, pizza nights and other events in the 99 year old church. Hollybank Treetops Adventure Hollybank Treetops Adventure allows you to glide across treetops gaining a birds eye view of a Tasmanian forest. Located 10 minutes from The Trig. Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm This historic property is located approximately 30 minutes from the mountain and, apart from its acres of lavender that flower in November and December; it has a gift shop, cafe and picnic areas for visitors. Yondover Farmhouse Cheeses Yondover is a working goat dairy where a variety of goat cheeses are produced on site. Visitors are welcome to view the goats being milked, purchase cheeses and have a light meal at the cafe. These vineyards are within approximately 20 minutes of The Trig and 40 minutes from Launceston. Lilydale Village Market The Saturday night and Sunday market are held fortnightly for eight months of the year and offer local ood, craft and produce. www.lilydalevillagemarket.blogspot.com. The Tasmanian Circus Festival The next bi-annual Tasmanian Circus Festival will be held in February 2013 at Golconda a 40 minute drive from The Trig. It is renowned for the world class performers who gather for three weeks at the site for workshops and the long weekend of the festival. www.circusfestivals.com.au. The Tamar Valley Wine Route This drive can be a full day tour that would encompass the Relbia, Tamar Valley and the closer Pipers River loop or a half day taking in the local vineyards. Valleybrook Wine Tours Valleybrook Wine Tours offer a guided tour of vineyards located on the Tamar valley wine route for a minimum of two people. The tours are designed to suit your time frame and interests with pick up available from The Trig. Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course This world famous 18 hole dunes golf course is around 50 minutes from the Trig and located some five minutes from the seaside village of Bridport. It offers full restaurant and bar facilities with views over Bass Strait. Trail of the Tin Dragon Located in the town of Derby some hour and 15 minutes from The Trig on the road to the east coast town of St Helens. It gives an historic perspective of the rich tin mining industry in north east Tasmania. History and Heritage Colonial heritage and National Trust listed properties within an hour of The Trig include Clarendon House at Evandale, Entally House at Hadspen, Woolmers Estate and National Rose Garden at Longford. Arts & Culture Art and Culture includes the Design Centre www.designcentre.com.au , Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery www.qvtas.gov.au and Theatre North in Launceston www.threatrenorth.com.au. There are numerous galleries and performance art occurring in the northern region. All these parks are close to within an hour of The Trig and Launceston and Lilydale. Nature Walks and National Parks Nature Walks includes the Mt Arthur walk, which for guests, starts from The Trig. Lilydale Falls walk is another very close walk some 3 kilometres from Lilydale. Other walks in the region include the Cataract Gorge Reserve and Tamar Island Wetland. Mt William National Park and the Bay of Fires are located some two hours to the north east of The Trig. Freycinet Peninsula and Wine Glass Bay are a further two hours south via Bicheno with Port Arthur world heritage site taking the same time to travel to. Cradle Mountain is located about 2½ hours to the south west of The Trig and a further three hours drive to Strahan and the Gordon River. You will have noted that The Trig at Lilydale just out of Launceston is a great location for day trips and with the TT Line arriving and departing from Devonport (1½ hours away) also makes it perfect for first and last night stays in Tasmania. www.parks.tas.gov.au.
