Switzerland is famous for its banking and Zurich is the financial hub of the country so if you're looking for somewhere to store your cash this might be the place, but we reckon you should consider this engrossing city for a holiday instead. Zurich has worked hard on shaking off the once sterile reputation it had and now it hosts a gigantic annual street party, is home to burgeoning bars and clubs in trendy districts and also maintains a fascinating history. We offer Zurich hotels to make sure you don't miss out on this exciting city.
Overlooking a picturesque lake, aptly named Lake Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland is full of great attractions and one of the best is the yearly street party that has developed into Europe's biggest. The Zurich Street Parade is a huge techno party which lines the lake and takes place usually on the second Saturday of August. A friendly atmosphere reigns throughout and above all else fun is top of everyone's agenda; after all even bankers need to let loose every now and then. Hotels in Zurich will be at their busiest during this time and we fully recommend you book ahead to enjoy the festival to its fullest.
For something a little less full-on and suited to all we would suggest a visit to the Lindt chocolate factory because the chocolate there is exquisite and who doesn't like exquisite chocolate. The factory is located just south of Zurich but can be easily reached via public transport or even a free city bike. The factory houses an interesting museum and most importantly of all, free chocolate is handed out. To get to the heart of the history of the city there are a couple of important places to visit from your Zurich hotel. The first of these is St. Peter's Church which dates back almost 800 years and boasts Europe's largest clock face measuring a whopping nine metres in diameter. Second is Grossmunster Church which is of a similar age and was vitally important during the Reformation, leaving its mark on European history.
