Trang is 120 kilometres of coastline fit for postcards, with tall and jagged limestone cliffs set between peaceful beaches. The most epic destinations are its islands, like the small and private Koh Ngai, where you can swim in crystal-clear blue water off soft sand beaches while coral reefs pulsing with marine life wait for snorkelers a little further out. Koh Muk is bigger and has beaches that are just as swimmable, but also has an unbelievable place called Tham Morakot (Emerald Cave), which can only be accessed by kayak at low tide. After you pass the 80 metres of rock passageway you reach a beach enclosed by rock and small pocket of thick forest. Light flows in from the opening above, turning this hidden gem into something magical.

An area of such natural beauty is of course ripe for diving, and underwater enthusiasts will be more than satisfied with the spots in Hat Chao Mai National Park and Koh Kradan among many others. Trekkers of all skill levels will find trails that guide them past lovely waterfalls where foamy water tumbles down black rocks, villages where friendly locals can show you how they live off the land, and also the local wildlife that calls Trang’s green terrain their home. Mainland Trang also has its fair share of caves, many with Buddha relics and one (Tham Kao Kob) which can only be explored on kayak in the dry season. There’s nothing quite like floating through its passageways with only torchlight to guide you and the sounds of the paddles on the water.
