    Pocket Guide: Torquay

Wot about a holiday where the surf's always up and the iconic Twelve Apostles along the Great Ocean Road are within easy reach? Our Torquay hotels are perfect for exploring Victoria's surfing scene and the home of the world-famous Rip Curl and Quicksilver brands.

    Things to do

Bells Beach is the surfing capital of Victoria, and home to the Rip Curl Pro surfing tournament over the Easter long weekend. If you’re not up to taking on the waves at Bells, Jan Juc Beach is a great place to learn how to surf. Then again, if it's just a safe swimming spot you're after, look no further than the calm waters of Torquay Beach.

Drop by the Surfworld Museum to brush up on your Australian surfing history and watch some fantastic footage in the theatre. Then wander through the museum's Australian Surfing Hall of Fame and learn about the legends who have shaped the industry as we know it today.

To check out the town's beautiful scenery, take the Surf Coast Walk or discover the incredible beauty below the water's surface at Point Danger Marine Sanctuary which – contrary to what its name suggests – is a safe snorkelling spot.

    Dining and shopping

You'll find plenty of cafes and restaurants along the Esplanade plus you can pick up some fresh local produce at the Torquay Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings.

When it comes to shopping, Surf City Plaza is the jewel in Torquay's crown. It's a shopping centre completely devoted to surfing, but if you're after some surf wear at bargain prices, you can head around the corner to Baines Court for factory seconds.

    Getting here and around

Avalon Airport is only 35km away so check out our cheap flights to Melbourne. Once you've arrived, you can get around town by bus but if you want the freedom to explore the rest of the Great Ocean Road, you're best off hiring a car.

Ready to go? Book your flights and Torquay accommodation and start packing. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
