Accommodation In Shah Alam

Shah Alam has what other good Malaysian cities have but adds a modern twist that makes all the difference. Many of its buildings not only set size records, but look like they are from sci-fi movies, and where else will you find a 24-hour skate park with fast food restaurants, or enjoy snow and water theme parks within the same day? This is a city that goes for gold with everything. You’ll be returning to your Shah Alam accommodation every day feeling satisfied.

Shah Alam’s most dazzling sight is the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque. It is the biggest mosque in Malaysia, the second biggest in Southeast Asia and can hold 24,000 people at one time. If the weather is clear, the blue and silver dome can be seen sparkling in the sun from as far away as Kuala Lumpur. It also looks spectacular because of its modernity; its outside is more angular than traditional mosques and the dome and minarets (towers) stretch high into the sky. On the inside it is a spiritual and special place, with blue stained-glass windows filtering in calming light and air-conditioning cooling the gigantic prayer hall. From the mosque you can go directly into the Garden of Islamic Arts. There are nine galleries within the grounds where you can become an expert on Islamic art.

By now you’ll definitely want something more upbeat, and since the skate park mentioned earlier isn’t for everyone, you can also head to Shah Alah Stadium. The parking lot here has been converted into a go kart track where you can burn rubber right next to the curvy international stadium – a perfect place for some pictures.

Like any city worth its money, Shah Alam also has a good selection of restaurants, including Japanese and Thai, many of which serve halal food, and also plenty of places to shop.

Don’t you want to see a city that blurs the line between old and new? Book a flight to Malaysia and one of our Shah Alam hotels to explore the streets of this fun and fascinating city that is still within shouting distance of Kuala Lumpur.
