The main street is Jalan Danau Tamblingan. It has car, motorbike and bicycle rental covered, as well as all the restaurants and shopping you could possibly need. Taxis regularly cruise the street, so simply jump in a cab or follow the paved beachfront path to take in the sights of the town. At fantastic Sanur Beach, try your hand at surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding or paragliding. There are even banana boats available for you to enjoy the calmer waters!

Just north of Sanur, the International Kite Festival takes place in July on Padang Galak Beach. Traditional Balinese giant kites are flown competitively against other villages and some of the kites measure over 10m in length! Marvel at the delights in the Le Mayeur Museum, dedicated to the work of Belgian artist Adrian Jean Le Mayeur. It's situated in his former home after he immigrated to Bali in 1932. Soak in the history of the museum while getting a rare insight into one of Bali's very first expats.

Afternoon walks through the Mangrove Forest are magnificent, with all the information of the 600 hectare reserve available in the local information centre. Two boardwalks take visitors deep into the forest, with guides available to educate both tourist and locals alike on the importance of this environment. The oldest known artifact is in Pura Blanjong (Blanjong Temple) and is an inscription of a Javanese king who visited Bali in the 10th century and established their first formal government.

South of the city, the Serangan Island Turtle Conservation Centre is three kilometres from Sanur. Stop by and learn the current conservation efforts being made now that trade in turtle meat is banned. Ride a bike along the beachfront cycle path. The track extends over five kilometres and is a wonderful way to see the scenery, especially early in the morning when you will be one of the only people awake. And of course, snorkelling and scuba dive trips are abundant. Diving straight off Sanur Beach is not the best in the island, so head to the town and set up a trip with one of the many operators. They'll pick you up from your hotel and take you to the best locations!
