Mong Kok is the classic image of
Hong Kong you’ve come to expect: neon signs fighting for your attention, steamy kitchens serving delicious food, skyscrapers aiming to touch the sky and hordes of people going places. It's busy but it's fantastic. Our Mongkok hotels will keep you in the heart of
Kowloon and allow you to easily access some of the great sights and experiences.
Nathan Road is the huge main street that runs through Mong Kok and it has been one of the major arteries through Kowloon for over 150 years. Modernity has swept away traces of the street's pleasant residential past and now Nathan Road is lined with restaurants and shops all competing for customers. The road is home to numerous landmarks and one of the best known is the infamous
Chungking Mansions which is a hub of cheap restaurants, guesthouses and shops. It probably contains more fascinating stories than the rest of the road combined and is worth a visit, just to take a peek. Not too far from your Mongkok hotel is a shopping lane specifically designed for women; boyfriends and husbands take cover, this is Ladies' Market. Although this market is mostly tourist orientated, with the right bartering skills there are plenty of bargains to take advantage of. Three more interesting sights can be easily accessed through Prince Edward MTR station on Nathan Road. These are the Goldfish Market, the Flower Market and the Street Bird Garden. All three are fairly self-explanatory but all three are well worth visiting.
Mong Kok is known as one of the most densely populated places on Earth and if the hectic scenes get a bit too much there is the famous
Wong Tai Sin Temple to retreat to. Conveniently connected by the MTR, this sanctuary from modern life is popular among locals and tourists. Here the air is thick with the smell of incense sticks, tranquil carp ponds can be enjoyed and fortune tellers give people an insight into their future. From your hotel in Mongkok this is a must-see destination.
