"Lovely character hotel within its own compound. "
Well located in the French Concession, this charming hotel evokes life in a different era. Friendly and accomodating staff went out of their way to whisk me into a room early. If you want 6 star fantasy New China luxury, best stay in Pudong. But for a comfortable and memorable experience of a bygone era as part of your stay in Shanghai, this is a good call. May sure you print off the address in Chinese and be clear which building you are in so you can direct taxis to the right place.

Lu Wan is famous for the wide boulevards, which are lined by plane trees imported over a hundred years ago from France. Follow this to the Shanghai French Concession, which is an area of Shanghai that is both the centre of Catholicism in China and has a distinctive European feel. For upscale fashion, Huahai Road is the shopping street of choice for the locals. Once you're done there, Xintiandi is another great mall made even better by the fact the entire street is closed to cars. Stay until evening and enjoy dinner at one of the great restaurants, or find a bar to start the night!

Check out the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, which remains one of the highest towers in Asia. Take a ride to the observation deck which sits 263m off the ground, and you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the city skyline. Once you have an idea of how it all looks, head to the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre, which has five floors demonstrating the ambitious plans of the city's urban planners. The centrepiece is a scale model that highlights what Shanghai will look like in 2020, or you can also explore a recreation of Old Shanghai, which is complete with cobblestone walkways and house entrances, alongside shops and tea houses that you can actually go inside.

You can't miss Qibao Ancient Town, that is surrounded by canals and living waterways. The temple here is said to contain seven treasures, but you can also marvel at the workmanship of the ingenious temple designs and gardens that make it feel as if you've stepped back in time to the Han or Tang Dynasty. There's a special museum here which is dedicated to cricket fighting, and a one of a kind place to visit. Come and see the amazing displays and even live demonstrations from these insect champions. As evening falls go for a stroll along the Bund, which is a waterfront area in central Shanghai. Here you can check out many of the city's Art Deco buildings, as well as the locals who are out for a pleasant evening stroll.

Lu Wan is the premier destination when you next visit Shanghai. Come and stay here to have easy access to the best shopping in the city, as well as learning about the culture and history of China. All you need to do is to browse through our flight to Shanghai and find a great deal on Lu Wan accommodation. Book it in and come have a fantastic holiday!
