Hotels In Huangpu

You can’t get any deeper into Shanghai than the Huangpu District – this is the city’s true heart. Here you get to the very core of everything that makes this dazzling destination so special, where the best of both its modern and old identities meet. You can be walking down Nanjing Road, popping into shop after shop of its pedestrian mall or sitting on a lush lawn in a park, and then find yourself transported hundreds of years into the past as you enter the old city where beautiful historic buildings hug the walkways. Whether you are travelling to see sights and culture, or want to let loose in Shanghai’s nightlife, restaurants and shopping, our Huangpu hotels will put you exactly where you need to be.

When it comes to sights, Huangpu touches every corner of Shanghai’s many beautiful atmospheres. You’ll savour in the western vibes of the European-style tree-lined streets and cafes of the French Concession District. But you’ll also love the old-world charm of the grand colonial buildings that line The Bund (waterfront) along the Huangpu River. Be sure to check out the simple but powerful architecture of the white and red Russian Consulate, and the classical-style pillars and clock towers of the China Merchant Bank and Shanghai’s Custom House. They’re even more spectacular when lit up at night. Walk a little inland and you’ll come across natural beauty in Yu Garden, where rich green trees and ponds with rocks around their borders hug pathways and old Chinese structures. Right next door is the Yutuan Tourist Mart, where you can start your shopping spree with some exotic jade or gold jewellery, art, or even sit down for a meal.

Speaking of food, getting your hands on some inner-Shanghai specialties can be one of the most testing adventures of your trip, but if you are up for it try and buy some xiao long bao, soup dumplings. If you eat at the restaurants, don’t be surprised if you are sitting squashed between local patrons as you devour this tasty dish. For an easy local breakfast, buy some sheng jian bao, pan fried buns with insides like dumplings – beautifully crispy on the outside with juicy goodness after every bite.

Since Shanghai is a metropolis with such a unique and rich culture, it should come as no surprise that there are great festivals year round. The Yuyuan shopping area comes alive with song and dance, rural and traditional dance as well as other customs for up to three weeks after every New Year. In October, a real wild carnival spirit takes over the streets for the Tourism Festival, which starts with an awesome grand parade on opening night, followed by a carnival on the very same day. Here you’ll see excellent local products, arts, fashion and food. To top it off, cruise ships join forces to make a gorgeous parade out on Huagpu River as the ships are fully decorated with lights just for this occasion.

Not sure where to book your Shanghai accommodation? Well, it can’t get any better than our list of Huangpu hotels, which put right you in the middle of the action after you step off your flight to Shanghai!
