Stay in our Kuching hotels and explore the capital, which is described as one of the most attractive cities on Southeast Asia. Kuching is a city rich is history, a blend of modern and old-world charm, divided by the Sarawak River. To the south lies a Chinese influence and to the north a predominately Malay influence. You will see that the two parts of the city are very different in character and architecture. The waterfront has excellent food stalls and restaurants serving delicious local specialities, and displays a fusion of flavours. Chinatown is bustling around the main bazaar, where many antique, handicraft shops and historical colonial monuments can be found. The Sunday markets are vibrant, selling unusual herbs, fruits, plants and animals from the local villagers.
As you already know, Sarawak is renowned for its beautiful rainforests and wildlife. From your Kuching hotel take a day trip to the Semeggoh Orang-utan Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre or Matang Wildlife Centre. Both centres have training programmes - on how to survive in the wild - for orang-utans who were orphaned or rescued from captivity, and they have many other native animals for you to view. Visit Bako National Park established in 1957, which is Sarawak’s oldest national park. Walk through the park and you will see fantastic views from rocky headlands, magnificent sandstone formations and secluded bays. Walk inland to see waterfalls, lush and unusual vegetation, the unique Proboscis monkey, macaques, giant lizards and many colourful exotic birds. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gunung Mulu National Park which contains one of the world's largest cave systems. Visit the golden sands of Damai beach, a great location to rest and relax, which is also home to the Sarawak Cultural Village, with seven replicas of ethnic houses. Or head out on a scuba diving tour to see a World War II shipwreck, the Katori Maru.
You will enjoy an enchanting holiday in the island of Borneo when staying in your hotel in Sarawak. With so much to see and do and so many beautiful places to explore, you’ll never forget Sarawak.Image Attribution: 26660287@N02 under Creative Commons
