Clare Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in Australia and is best known for its delicious Riesling wine. Most tourists come here to walk the famous Riesling Trail, a 35km trail past cellar doors, vineyards and boutique wineries. Along the way, you'll also pop into local art studios, visit historic buildings and even pass by olive groves. So, if you like the odd tipple, our Clare Valley hotels are the perfect base to enjoy a tasty drop, without having to worry about finding a designated driver.
Things to See and Do
For over thirty years, Clare Valley has been putting on the highly acclaimed "Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend" in mid May. Foodies and wine connoisseurs flock from all over the country to take part in this grand event with live entertainment, cooking demonstrations and some of the best cuisine and regional wine on offer. If you can't make it here in time for the event, you can still pick up some spectacular locally produced gourmet goodies from the monthly country market, held on the second Saturday of each month.
Besides wine, another one of the valley’s drawcards is its architecture. Many of the guest houses and hotels in the Clare Valley region are renovated colonial buildings, built by the area's first European settlers in the mid 1800s. The intricate architecture is exquisite and simply adds to the overall charm of the valley.
